Homelessness: Close To Home
Lesson Two of a two-part lesson for 11-16 year olds exploring homelessness and how The Salvation Army seek to help people experiencing homelessness. There is a Citizenship focus but it has optional RE extension tasks to develop the lesson into a cross curricular learning session.

This lesson is part of a 6-part resource exploring homelessness, refugees and anti-trafficking.
The lessons aim is for students to have an improved opinion and understanding of people who are experiencing homelessness, trafficking or who were refugees.
Students will also learn how they can have an impact on these people lives as citizens, whilst delving into The Salvation Army’s work and values.

William Booth and The Salvation Army
A lesson looking at Faith in Action, what William Booth and The Salvation Army did during the Victorian times. It explores what William Booth did and incorporates some of his famous sayings, for example ‘Soup, soap and salvation’. Pupils learn what it might have been like to live during the Victorian times. There is a range of follow-up activities including comparing what The Salvation Army did 150 years ago, to present day support. Suitable for ‘Faith in Action’, ‘Studying a Person of Faith’ and ‘Victorians’ topics.
True Story - Anti-trafficking
Enable pupils to develop their understanding of anti-human trafficking through the true stories of Lydia, Fredek and Tee - survivors of modern slavery.
These three lessons are designed to support your pupils to address this challenging topic in an accessible way and can be used separately or as part of a series of lessons. True Story equips teachers to facilitate discussion and action against injustice, to help pupils consider their basic needs, be part of community groups and develop resilience. The aim is to encourage personal reflection, action planning or working towards wider school projects to raise awareness.
